Experience is the one that sets you apart from others

A decision made in the past helped to learn and grow

Describe a decision you made in the past that helped you learn or grow.

We humans are emotional creatures whether we agree or not

There are tons of decisions we make on a daily basis.

Sometimes it’s positive on us and some turns against us which is considered a learning opportunity

Experience is the one that sets you apart from others

Coming to the topic on one of the decisions in the past helped me grow is

Individual Contributor vs Management

While I was very interested in the programs or projects as an individual contributor, I used to love the day-to-day tasks I was executing while reporting to the manager I was working with.

It was definitely one of the best times where I could explore the work from a specialist level and enhance my growth opportunity in the same stream.

However, one day my leader came to me and asked me to start leading a small team which was definitely not what I was looking for as I was pretty happy with what I was doing.

But my leader explained to me the role and how it can help me improve.

After a lot of thought process i took the position.

When you are a leader, you are in the hot seat all the time, people will be watching whether you are doing things right or wrong.

I definitely had a challenging team to manage with some or more experienced people than me but my skills, experience and learning attitude what I had didn’t give up on me.

I started as a team lead, became an assistant manager and eventually manager and senior manager. The most important thing I could learn in these positions is about myself

I could see a huge change in me and the way of thinking the more I learnt and understood people.

Every individual is different hence they had to deal with different ways and styles.

Ultimately, the decision I made to get into management was one of the best decisions I ever made in my life and will always suggest exploring different scopes of work and don’t worry about the immediate results.

I am still learning and growing, hoping to learn with the awesome people I work with and live with.
